Rione Casale

In questo rione intorno al 1200, avvenne il trasferimento nell’attuale Bivongi, dei casali di Bingi e Bubungi, sorti ai piedi del convento dei SS. Apostoli. Da questo rione nasce la nuova Bivongi, il primo agglomerato urbano. Il trasferimento avvenne perché la nuova area era ricca d’acqua e la terra era meglio coltivabile. Le case dei bivongesi erano sparse anche tra le pendici del monte Consolino: a Majudera, a Garganu, lungo il torrente Melodari e la fiumara Stilaro.

Around 1200, the Bingi and Bubungi hamlets, founded at the foot of the SS. Apostoli convent, were moved to the current Bivongi. And so the new Bivongi was born in this district. The hamlets were moved because the new area was water-rich and the soil was easier to farm. The houses of Bivongi were also scattered between the slopes of Mount Cosolino: in Majudera, Garganu, and along the Melodari stream and the Stilaro River.
